We were engaged by Ford Motors to create a press bag for Hong Kong Fashion Week. The bag was to showcase Ford's use of environmentally responsible materials and was to be created from fabric made of recycled p.e.t. water bottles.

Solution

Reasoning that the world doesn't need another disposable tote bag we created a unique press kit bag that could transform from a tote to a simple backpack - something worth keeping because it is well made and innovative rather than disposable - this was aimed to be a reflection of Ford's ethos.

Starts as a Tote

The press bag looks like a standard tote bag but with a very small modification it becomes so much better.

Becomes a Backpack

By changing a bit of stitching, rearranging straps and adding two snap buttons we made the tote into a minimalist backpack big enough to hold documents and a 13 inch computer.

Not Just Another Tote

Nobody needs another disposable tote bag this is something worth keeping and reflects Ford's design ethos.

Minimal Impact

Design and construction was kept minimal while dimensions were chosen to reduce wasted material. As few additional materials as possible were added to the bag in order to keep environmental impact to a minimum.

Design for the Long Term

The press bag was released to great acclaim at the opening of the Ford Design Challenge during Hong Kong Fashion Week. It has now been adopted as their general press kit bag.
